People who live in cities tend to eat more when their team loses a game. We can compare this to stress or comfort eating. Initially, we just feel better when we overeat. In the 30 cities that have an NFL football team, people in the losing cities ate 16% more saturated fat and 10% more calories when compared to fans living in cities without teams. Even more interesting is that if you live in a city whose team just won, you would on average consume the losing 9% less fat and 5% less calories compared to people in the cities WITHOUT teams.
Researchers recommend that disappointed fans shift their focus to more important things, like family and healthy meal planning ahead of time.
Researchers, obviously are not NFL football fans!
